Reading Schemes:
According to an article in the UCT news, lack of access to reading material is one of the main reasons that 78% of South African children in Grade 3 still struggle to read for meaning.
Why not invest in some expertly designed readers, to help your child master the most enjoyable skill – reading with understanding!
Here are a few ideas to help your child learn to read:
Sing songs and nursery rhymes to build phonemic awareness.
Make and use simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) word cards at home.
Engage your child in a print-rich environment – point out words wherever you see them!
Play word games at home or in the car.
Read to your child, read with your child and let your child read to you!
